Let no one judge you in food drink holiday or sabbath

Why does Paul say, let no one judge you in food, feast days, or Sabbaths?

Lets start by looking at the text in question, which is Colossians 2:16-17. It’s important to keep in mind that Colossians was written to Greek converts who were living in a pagan culture.
“Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Messiah.” (Colossians 2:16-17)

This is an interesting visual aid that Paul uses here to describe these things. He says they are a shadow of the Messiah. A person’s shadow always goes with you. Sometimes it follows you, and sometimes it precedes you, but it is always right there with you. You can’t go anywhere without your shadow, and likewise your shadow can’t go anywhere without you.

Also, Paul says they are a shadow of things to come. This means the shadow precedes the Messiah. They are prophetic shadows that help to reveal the plans of Yahweh. The shadow of Messiah lets us know what Messiah is going to do.

A conversation with a Preacher about the Sabbath

I drove past a church today, and the message on the marquee caught my attention because it mentioned the Sabbath. So, I decided to pull into the driveway to read the message on their sign. This is what it said,
“No Christian can keep the faith and not keep the Sabbath.” – M. Lunn

This message intrigued me, because directly under the marquee was their listing of Sunday morning service times. As I was about to drive away, a man walked out of the church building and approached my car, so I rolled down the window to ask him about his sign. I was curious why a Sunday keeping church seemed to be advocating the Sabbath, so I asked him about it.

I said, “I am curious about your sign that seems to encourage keeping the Sabbath, yet you are a Sunday keeping church. Can you explain this to me?”

The Lunar Sabbath Deception

There is a new source of confusion among believers about when we should keep the Sabbath. Catholics, Protestants, Jews, and Messianic believers all agree that Sunday is NOT the Biblical Sabbath. There is no dispute about this among preachers, scholars, historians, or theologians. It is a well documented fact that Sunday church was instituted by the Roman Empire and the Catholic Church 300 years after Yeshua ascended. We know for a fact that Sunday is not, and never has been the Sabbath.

However, there is a new theory about the Sabbath that is gaining popularity among Sabbath keeping believers that is causing them to question if we are truly keeping the Biblical Sabbath as commanded by God. This theory has caused much confusion and division among Sabbath keepers, and is a subject that needs to be addressed to avoid any further confusion.

What is the Lunar Sabbath?

The Lunar Sabbath theory suggests that the weekly cycle resets each month based on the new moon, and ignores the current weekly uninterrupted 7 day cycle. They argue that the Sabbath will always fall on the 8th, 15th, 22nd, and 29th day of every lunar month.

Understanding Acts 15

Understanding Acts 15 is very important, and many people have misunderstood the decision of the Jerusalem council. Lets take a closer look at what actually happened and why.

Wake up Laodicea

In 363 AD, The Council of Laodicea met to form rules (canons) regulating the conduct of church members. One of the most significant of these rules outlawed the keeping of the sabbath (Saturday) and encouraging rest and worship on Sunday (the day of the sun) instead. The Council stated that, "Christians must not Judaize on the Sabbath, but must work on that day"

What happened to the Sabbath?

Something has been on my mind recently, and it concerns the way in which Christians seem to pick and choose which scriptures we will follow. I am particularly concerned with our blatant neglect and outright rejection of the Sabbath. Have we forgotten that it is one of the Ten Commandments?
